Netherton represents VBHS at TSSAA Golf Championships

Van Buren County High School’s Abigail Netherton recently competed in the TSSAA Class A Girls’ Golf Championship in Sevierville, Tennessee.

The freshman was one of just 24 golfers who qualified to play the Sevierville Golf Club as an individual, becoming the first Eagle to earn a trip to the state tournament since Tiffany Cherrell Mooneyham in 1999.

“Playing in the state tournament was a lot of fun,” Netherton said. “There were a lot of great girls playing, and it was a hard course to play, but I liked it. It was a great experience, and it means a lot to me to be able to represent Van Buren County on that level. “

Netherton finished 11th among individuals and tied for 22nd overall with a two-round 175. She shot 90 on the first day before dropping her score to 85 on the final day. She was +35 for the tournament.

She picked up two birdies and two pars in the first round and parred eight holes in the second round.

“I’m super proud of Abigail for advancing to the state tournament,” head coach Lindsey Riggs said. “It was her goal at the beginning of the season to get there. She competed with some of the best golfers in the state over the course of two days and did very well. I know she’s already getting ready for next season and has the same goal of getting back to the state tournament.”
