Mr. Tyler Brown is in his first year as a teacher at Van Buren County High School. The former media relations professional and broadcaster is leading the school’s new broadcasting CTE program and serves as the faculty advisor for student media club, the Eagle Network.

Mr. Brown teaches AV Production I, AV Production II, Intro to Communications, and Service Learning. As the faculty advisor for the Eagle Network, he oversees the club’s written and broadcast productions, as well as its social media channels.

His biggest goal for this school year is to make the Eagle Network bigger and better. He expects that to happen as students take the different communication courses throughout their high school careers.

“I want to grow the media club and get more students involved,” Mr. Brown stated. “I want to see the club cover more events throughout the year, and I believe the quality of the projects we produce will improve as we grow.”

Prior to coming to VBHS, Mr. Brown enjoyed 10 years working in professional and college athletics. As a member of the athletic department staff at Jacksonville State University, Mr. Brown spent five years as a sports information director for the school’s men’s basketball, football and tennis teams. Along with his duties for his assigned teams, he also served as a play-by-play announcer for a number of the program’s ESPN+ broadcasts.

Before his stint with JSU, Mr. Brown led the media relations efforts for both the Birmingham Barons and the UAB Blazers baseball team. He also spent two seasons as a TrackMan operator for the Los Angeles Dodgers with their AA affiliate, the Chattanooga Lookouts.

He is a 2014 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He received his Bachelor’s of Science of Communication from UTC and spent five years working within the program’s athletics communications department.

Mr. Brown graduated from Grundy County High School in 2009. He and his wife, Ashton, have a 15-month-old daughter, Sophie.
