AGRIBUSINESS (MR. MAYNARD)

The Agribusiness program of study teaches students to apply the economic and business principles involved in the sale and supply of agricultural products to a wide range of careers across the industry. In addition to building foundational knowledge of finance and marketing principles as they apply to agricultural businesses, courses in this program of study teach students essential leadership, management, and communications skills to help them succeed in future agribusiness careers. Upon completion of this POS, students will also be prepared for advanced business courses at the postsecondary level.

AGRISCIENCE

Agriscience is an introductory laboratory science course that prepares students for biology, subsequent science and agriculture courses, and postsecondary study. This course helps students understand the important role that agricultural science and technology plays in the twenty-first century. In addition, it serves as the first course for all programs of study in the Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources cluster. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared for success in more advanced agriculture and science coursework. This course counts as a lab science credit toward graduation requirements.

PRINCIPLES OF AGRIBUSINESS

Principles of Agribusiness teaches students to apply the economic and business principles involved in the sale and supply of agricultural products to a wide range of careers across the industry and builds foundational knowledge of finance and marketing principles. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared for more advanced coursework in the Agribusiness program of study.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS

Organizational Leadership and Communications is an applied-knowledge course for students interested in learning more about the attributes and skills of successful leaders in the agriculture industry. This course covers organizational behavior, communication, management, and leadership topics. Students participate in activities that will assist them in the development of communication and interpersonal skills transferrable to any agribusiness application. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared for the level-four Agricultural Business and Finance course and advanced study at a postsecondary institution. Standards in this course are aligned with Tennessee State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in Technical Subjects as well as National Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources Career Cluster Content Standards.

AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS & FINANCE

Agricultural Business and Finance is an applied course that addresses the economic and business principles necessary to operate a successful agribusiness. The course covers a wide range of topics in business, finance, economics, and management. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will have learned to apply the principles drawn from these topics toward activities that support their own business aspirations in the agriculture industry. Agricultural Business and Finance is a dual credit course with statewide articulation.
